India's main port and commercial center, the city of gold – Mumbai was originally a cluster of seven islands. The islands were Mahim, Worli, Parel, Girgaon, Mazgaon, Little Colaba and Great Colaba. Initially creeks separated the islands from each other. Later these shallow water bodies were filled up with sediments of adjoining hill ranges and a continuous stretch of land was formed.
